capitalism, not so smelly

What keeps this word, capitalism, accommodating in my mind recently are those experiences of babysitting. I was educated of the enormous advantages of socialism ever since i remembered things. I'm not a straight Marxist, however I do believe that socialism is advanced than capitalism, in whatever way it is, from the theoretical point of view. However, the more I experience capitalism in the states, the more supportive I'm of it. Maybe it's not pure capitalism any more?

I'm babysitting, and every time before I start working with a family, there would be a pre-interview natured meeting. I never expect that this meeting is accounted into money-making, because if happens in China, this should be considered as opportunity investment. In other words, I have to afford the fees by myself. However, the fact is that every time I finish my "interview" meeting, parents will always make the offer to compensate my transportation fee. However, as a girl growing up in socialist country, I'm used to paying the expense and also obeying the custom of being polite especially when money is involved. However, their offer always reminds of the sweet part of capitalism- No matter who you are, the rule of how much you pay how much you gain always applies. It's not that they are more generous, neither is it that they are light about money. It is their way of living, like common sense.

This relieves me a lot because being in love with most social morals, I'm so not accustomed to the politeness, most often than not, disguised politeness in Chinese culture. If you want something, say you want it. If you are eligible for something, take it. No nudging back and forth, no forging protective walls when interacting with trustful people. How good is that. How easy are those. It is true that Chinese people are more related with their families and friends because we have the attachment constructed on the basis of Confucius moralities in which politeness is a main one. However, it is also true that people in capitalistic countries are more clear-headed when emergencies happens and righteous actions needs to be practised. One example is that American people are so tolerant when dealing with the west Virginia gun shot accident. Instead of blaming the killer, they try to justify for the killer. Instead of hatred and wrath, they show grace and tolerance. This is overwhelmingly impressively for me, be cause it is just so hard to go this way if appears in China. But I'm not saying our system is worse than capitalism. It is that both are existing in a way that none can take the place of the other.
